    Why a “not-a-blog”?

    April 21st, 2008

In the extremely hypothetical case that somebody were to wonder why I go through “futile attempts at rationalizing my unreasonable reluctance to call my site a ‘blog’”, here’s why:

As far as I’m concerned, a “blog” is two things:

    1. A really stupid-sounding word.

    2. A site where some kid yammers on about such things as what they did that day, what mood they’re in, and how it’s unfair how Joey told Suzie that blah blah blah, all while deluding themselves that any of it is actually worthy of being posted.

Don’t get me started on “Twitter” and “micro-blogging”.

    “Previous Entries” Broken

    October 10th, 2007

The “Previous Entries” features keeps breaking and working again, and breaking…etc. Manually sticking “/page/2″, etc., doesn’t seem to help. Just use the “Archives” links on the side instead. Kinda of a pain, but at least it works.

    Comment Spam

    October 2nd, 2007

Some spam’s been getting through so I’ve reenabled “Users must be registered and logged in to comment”. If you meet a spammer, bash their face in.

UPDATE (10/10/07): The spam is still getting through to the approval queue. So fuck it, I’ve disabled comments entirely.

UPDATE (two minutes later): Apparently I have to manually disable it in every post. What a pain in the ass.

BTW, Firefox’s spellcheck suggestion engine sucks.

“What does this have to do with dev-scene.com?!?”

    August 5th, 2007

Those who have been following this, umm, I-irrationally-refuse-to-call-it-a-blog thing, (yes, all zero of you ;)) have undoubtedly noticed that most of these posts have absolutely nothing to do with homebrew game console development. Well, have no fear: I’ll soon be moving this somewhere that actually makes sense. And by “soon”, of course, I mean “whenever the hell I get around to it.”

    Comments Need CAPTCHA

    March 25th, 2007

I hate when sites require a login to post a comment, but I’ve just had to do that here since WordPress’s lack of CAPTCHA has been letting in spam. If WordPress adds CAPTCHAs (good ones), I’ll turn no-login posts back on AND turn off the requirement that comments be approved (Not that I’m a big WordPress fan anyway).

UPDATE (3/29/2007): The Dev-Scene admin has installed the Spam Karma 2 plugin. It’s not CAPTCHA, but may work just fine. I’ve re-enabled no-login comment posting. Yay!

    WordPress Oddities

    February 28th, 2007

WordPress handles double-quotes and bullet-list spacing really strangely.

It also seems to use some weird JavaScript-based presentation layer that chokes on Firefox 1.5. (yes, yes, I know that’s an old version)

EDIT: The odd spacing seemed to just be something with the default theme. I think it used justified instead of left-align. Looked really weird. Single and double quotes still look like crap though.

    First!

    First!

(I swear, that’s the ONLY time I will ever make one of those horrifically obnoxious “first” posts…)
