Eh, anyways. I’m a machinist … ok I push buttons. I… I’m a stand-in for a robot that will eventually replace me
Anyways, I earn a decent wage and Descent DS is the game I’ve wanted most since I saw a mockup on DarkFader’s site. I’d very much like to contribute to future developments.
If you can make this control scheme optional, I’d give more:
d-pad - aiming
L - hold down to switch D-Pad into strafe mode (similar to holding down alt in the original)
X - forward
B - back
Y - fire secondary
A - fire flare
R - fire primary
Start - game menu (exit, main menu, etc)
Select - hold down to bank (roll), similar to holding down alt to slide
This is the best control scheme I can come up with. If you try it out on your own DS you can feel it’d work great.
So, let’s say: $50 immediately if it works on my EZV, another $25 if you set up that control scheme, and another $75 if/when you set up some sort of ad-hoc multiplayer!
If you come up with anything else cool, more bonuses haha, I’m really excited about this development!

Wow this is awesome! Great stuff.
Bugs/oddities:
-Ambient sound, for instance fans doesn’t seem to work properly
-Infinite turning speed should be possible to turn off
-Crackling in some audio, for instance adjust FX volume in menu (adjusted master volume and this disappeared :S )
-All animated things like powerups are inverted
-”select” can’t be mapped to a function. I realize why this is, but maybe instead while navigating menus, A and B could be hardcoded to be the “yes/forward” and “no/last menu” buttons… Or something. Just need lots of buttons for this game!
-NO MUSIC!
Great work

For anyone interested, I’ve vastly improved my original idea for a control scheme:
Pitch forward: up
Pitch backward: down
Turn left: left
Turn right: right
Slide on: B
Bank on: Select (not possible yet)
Fire Primary: Y
Fire Secondary: A
Fire Flare: X
Accelerate: L
Brake: R

-Reticle shows even in escape sequence and in other strange times
I’d gladly sacrifice an audio channel or the minimap in exchange for music!

-On level 7, go past the yellow door. There’s a long slightly skewed hallway, with a missile launcher and green guy on the other side of a set of grates. Slide up and down gradually while looking through them and you’ll see a strange problem. The grate seems to have a twin directly behind it, at a different alignment. It’s possible that the grate isn’t actually aligned properly on both sides (common especially in descent 1), but normally this shouldn’t show because the opposite side of the wall is transparent when you’re not on that side… if that makes any sense. If it helps, I can take a picture with my camera.
-Artifacts occur on certain 2D powerup animations. To best illustrate, imagine you have an animated GIF but the bottom 10% of the image shows up at the top 10% of the image… looks kinda like that. I’m thinking it might be a side-effect of the way that you shrank these animations (if I remember correctly)

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! MY SAVEGAMES DON’T WORK!!!!

-In the Multiplayer menu, when attempting to start a modem/serial game, I get white screen on top, bottom screen red, says: “error: unknown option 18 in do_option”
Does multiplayer actually work on this? :O Or is it just there to tease us!

Further improvement of my control scheme:
pitch forward/back/left/right - dpad
Slide on - B
Fire Primary - Y
Fire Secondary - X
Fire Flare - A
Accelerate - R
Reverse - L
Works EXTREMELY well. I’m up to level 7 right now…
Please make it possible to disable the infinitely-increasing turn speed.

-After exiting level 3 (during the “cutscene”) the background is messed up. It’s a bunch of skewed earth pictures.

I like to keep my SD card tidy, so I put all my various homebrew/games/music/TV in different folders… it looks like DScent can only find the data files if they’re in the root directory though, rather than the relative directory. Can that be fixed?
