Have fun!

I’ve also added a donation page for those interested. All donations will be used to improve the game (ie. to add multiplayer, I need a second DS and card).

Edit : Yes, I’ve removed the minimap to further increase the framerate. However, it is easily reactived by adding a section similar to this in you .csk file :

[automap]
x=50
y=240
w=150
h=100
type=automap

    Hello, Wanted to say thanks for the the awesome DS port. This runs faster on the ds than it did on my computer.

    Also wanted to say, I own a EZV flashcart, the type that had the pallete problem before. The new version is playable but when I try to load a save game I get a solid red screen on the top and a white screen on the bottom. Any clue? Thanks again, seriously considering a donation.

  2. Michael Says:

    sorry to double post but I get a red screen on the bottom and white on top, the reverse what I said previously.

    You are the KING! Sending you some beer money as promised!!!!

  4. Caydr Says:

    $200, I hope that can buy you the DS and card! More to come when multiplayer works, especially if you can make it work over TCP/IP, a matchmaking system, etc, but even plain old ad-hoc would be amazing.

    Hey, I had an idea for you about how to implement the afterburner if you ever get Descent 2 running on here… it doesn’t seem like such a leap. Anyways, push the “forward” button, then the “backward” button at the same time. Because why would you ever use em both at once?

    I’m posting your site everywhere I know.

    -Cloaked enemies are still mostly visible
    -”select” can now be used as a key while setting up the controls, but it doesn’t actually work ingame
    -automap’s gone. Possibly intentional though, after reading the readme
    -after exiting level 9, I hit start and a briefing came up for a brief instant and then I got the white/red screen crash

  8. Caydr Says:

    -Seems briefings (where new robots are shown) crash the game randomly as they start
    -Either save or load is borked somehow. I can’t load my savegames, I just get red/white screen.

  9. Destoo Says:

    Do I need to patch the DLDI on those?
    If I don’t patch, I get two black screens
    If I do patch and replace the normal DLDI by my r4’s, I get error:cannot open file descent.tex or descent.txb

    Suggestions?

    sorry, found the reason. http://blog.dev-scene.com/kayvenm/page/2/
    Need:
    descent.pig
    descent.hog
    They’re on the original game, right?

    (AFK for a day or two..
    digging through piles of floppies)

    Man, this homebrew just keeps getting better. Many thanks for this new addition!

  12. Destoo Says:

    Anyone tested this with the DLOTW expansion? (Level of the worlds)
    Those were fanmade levels, I think..

    Tested “Arena”. working.

    Found a bug in the display of “new game”. normally, there’s only one option.
    If you put in other .hog files, it lists all of them. But the display just messes up when you move from mission to mission. (not writing the names at the right spot)

    No major glitch so far in the levels themselves. One black/red screen followed by a shut down. Seems to happen when crashing in the wall too much. (I’m a bad pilot!)

  13. Caydr Says:

    -2D object (for instance, a homing missile pickup) collision detection seems to be sub-par compared with PC-based Descent, from what I can remember. Various pickups get half-stuck behind a wall. You can still get them, but the clipping doesn’t look so good.

    -There’s a “quit” option in the main menu! There’s probably some other stuff there that can be removed, I forget specifics

    -There is no way to disable weapon autoselecting. This was a Descent 2-only feature, I think… not found in Descent 1. But it’s probably not difficult to implement. The problem is just that you will frequently do things like pick up a mega missile or something, go into battle, then kill yourself thinking you still have homing missiles selected. This doesn’t apply to the “No energy = auto select Vulcan cannon”, since that’s always helpful. A “disable weapon autoselect” checkbox is all that’s needed.
