FastCGI Acceleration

Dev-Scene No Comments »

FastCGI for PHP makes all your PHP applications run through mod_fastcgi instead of mod_phpsusexec. This eliminates the overhead of loading the PHP interpretor on every hit. Since it is always in memory ready for the next hit, the responses will be generated faster.

This service has been recently installed and enabled for the public by my webhost and as of last night.. fastCGI is GO!

I have really noticed an huge improvement in the speed - The Dev-Scene front page is being rendered twice as fast on average in my benchmarks.

  • Mediawiki 1.10
  • PHPBB 2
  • Wordpress MU 1.2.3
  • Planet Moonmoon
  • Library Autoindex
  • and alot of other extentions/mods and hacks I’ve installed onto these PHP applications

I’ve updated to the newest release of Wordpress MU.

This release has all the security fixes from WP 2.2.1.

I’ve upgraded the wordpress MU release to 1.2.2 - The official version number has not changed (you’ll notice the version still shows 1.2.1)

With this update, I’ve installed a CAPTCHA for blog signups.. this should stop the increasing amount of spambots that continued to spam our servers.

Recently one of these bots decided to post a series of blogs with porn and other adult related links… This was caught by my webhost and trigged them to automatically suspend Dev-Scene…

I hope this should improve the service and security of the D-S wordpress blogs.. This also has the added bonus of keeping my administration down.
